Edgar McCleod Baines

About the Founder

Edgar grew up in the housing projects of Chicago where he was told that he would never succeed. But living his life as led by God, he refused to listen to those negative individuals and "Nay Sayers".

He started dancing with the Joseph Holmes Dance Company of Chicago where he performed for several years. Later, he was persuaded to join the famed Thompson Community Singers to help nurture his vocal skills, received an award, and traveled with them throughout the U.S.

He started his acting career while a resident of Chicago where he performed on various stages, first as a dancer, then as an actor and singer. After the death of his mother he decided to leave the stage arena and concentrate on the completion of his college education at the Roosevelt University of Chicago. While working his way up in the corporate world, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration and Spanish.

Later, Edgar relocated to Atlanta where he continued his corporate climb as he successfully rose to a position as a Banking Officer. While working in the banking field, he decided to simultaneously reconnect with his life's passion and re-entered the stage arena by performing, directing and writing plays and skits. He later received the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Service Award for his contributions to drama/theater, and development of programs and projects which demonstrated concern for social issues.

After the encouragement of a local minister and friends, he founded E. Baines Productions, a theatrical company dedicated to the presentation of one of Edgar's recent writings entitled, "Wrongful Termination", a play referencing people who have been wrongfully released from their jobs. The play is intended to help present to the community a "bit" of what is happening in the business world today, and how with faith and determination, individuals can overcome employment adversities.

Subsequently, the production company's goal is to present other plays written by Edgar, as well as other artists, which would be beneficial in uniting our various communities. It is Edgar's belief that there is much-utilized talent desiring to be heard. It is his goal to take his dream to various venues, as well as to multiple "main stages", for the purpose of sharing and encouraging all those who desire to be "uplifted", and who are seeking answers to some of the problems that trouble today's society.
